No, you do not need a referral to see a speech pathologist. You can self-refer your child by giving us a call or through our website.

First, you'll be welcomed by our wonderful Client Services Officer, Maddie. Shortly after, your therapist will meet you in the waiting room, introduce themselves, and guide you to their room. Once there, the therapist will take some time to build rapport with your child and may ask you a few questions about your concerns. Based on this, the therapist will decide which assessments to complete, often incorporating fun games throughout the session. The session can last up to 90 minutes. At the end, the therapist will provide an overview of the assessments and offer recommendations if further therapy is needed. You can make the payment with Maddie on your way out.

Thank you for your enquiry. However, our clinic only provides assessment and therapy for children aged 0-12. Our therapists focus specifically on paediatric care, and all their training and resources are tailored to this age group. We encourage you to explore other clinics that specialize in services for older children and teenagers.

Well, that’s a bit like asking, "How long is a piece of string?" Unfortunately, we can’t provide a specific timeframe for how long your child will need therapy. Typically, children attend weekly or fortnightly appointments, but completing regular homework at home is essential for progress. If you're ever unsure about the homework, don’t hesitate to ask your therapist during your next appointment.
-
Yes, absolutely! We usually recommend that your child attend either a block of group therapy or 1:1 sessions (if they overlap) to prevent therapy burnout for both your child and yourself. Group therapy offers a great opportunity for your child to practice the skills they’ve learned in a real-world setting with peers of similar ages.
-
We can’t provide an exact timeframe as it depends on therapist availability and the current waitlist. However, after you enquire, we will send an email with an estimated wait time—usually around 6-8 months, give or take.
-
Some private health insurance companies do provide rebates for speech therapy sessions, but this depends on your specific insurer and level of cover. We do not have a HICAPS machine in the clinic, so you will need to lodge your receipts with your insurer to determine if you're eligible for a rebate.
-
Yes, of course! Therapists can accommodate extra chairs in the room for siblings, and older children may choose to wait in the waiting room. We kindly ask that other children respect the session time by sitting quietly and only joining in if invited by the therapist.

As part of our Infection Control Plan, we reserve the right to refuse service if you or your child are unwell. Many of our clients include immunocompromised children and families, and when our staff fall ill, it impacts services for everyone. Please cancel your appointment as soon as possible if you or your child are sick by contacting our admin team. A reminder text will be sent 72 hours before your appointment. If you cancel within 48 hours of your appointment, you will be charged the full session fee.
-
Unfortunately, we do not offer home visits. However, if appropriate, your therapist may be able to offer telehealth appointments. Alternatively, we recommend contacting a mobile speech pathologist who may better suit your current situation.
-
Some of our therapists can visit daycares or kindergartens that are close to the clinic, depending on their availability. Please inquire if this service is an option for you. Note that all out-of-clinic appointments will incur an additional travel fee.
-
Unfortunately, we are unable to visit schools, as many schools have designated speech pathologists. However, if your child sees a school-based speech therapist, we are happy to share therapy goals and plans with them, with your permission.
-
Yes, we offer services to self-managed and plan-managed NDIS clients. However, we do not provide services to agency-managed clients. If the provider agrees to support the participant under the capacity-building or core budgets, our administration team will send a service agreement outlining Small Sprouts Therapy's policies.
-
Yes! Our therapists can prepare a letter or report for your child’s upcoming paediatrician appointment. Please make your request at least three weeks in advance to give the therapist time to complete it. We offer summary and comprehensive reports, each with an associated fee. All invoices for reports must be paid in full before the report can be sent.
-
The best way to reach your child’s therapist directly is via their work email, which you can request during your initial consultation. For urgent matters, you can contact our administrative team, who will promptly pass on your message to the therapist.
